Glory To God In The Highest

Good morning family, in today’s devotion, let’s talk about today’s thought, “Glory To God In The Highest”.

Today’s thoughts come from Luke 2:8-14 which says,
8 And there were in the same country shepherds abiding in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night. 9 And, lo, the angel of the Lord came upon them, and the glory of the Lord shone round about them: and they were sore afraid. 10 And the angel said unto them, Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people. 11 For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord. 12 And this shall be a sign unto you; Ye shall find the babe wrapped in swaddling clothes, lying in a manger. 13 And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God, and saying, 14 Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men.

Luke shares Jesus’ birth story from the viewpoint of God’s interaction with the common man. From Luke’s account, we see four main characters in the text, and each of them gives us a different perspective for better understanding God’s love as he gave the gift of His Son unto us. We have Mary and Joseph, the angels, and the shepherds.

Let’s start with the angels.

We see the angels heralding the good news of the birth of The Saviour to the shepherds. Now heralds, usually precede the coming of a king; you see heralds show up in a time of peace and blessing; heralds don’t show up in a time of war because an army doesn’t give a warning, it simply attacks. So, we know that these angels were coming to bring good news of peace to the earth. The Prince of Peace had arrived.

The angels add something unusual to the story because if God’s gift is for mankind, then why are the angels themselves celebrating? How is this good news for them?

It’s good news because they have again witnessed the faithfulness and love of God towards man. Instead of carrying news of judgment, they now have the privilege of carrying glad tidings, news that will bring great joy to the earth. So, they are celebrating God’s faithfulness.

We marked this season as a time of celebration of the entrance of God’s good news into our world. Above all the gifts that we can receive during this season, the greatest gift we can receive, is the love of God towards us; the greatest gift we can share, is God’s love. And like the angels, we too can herald or share the message of Christ with other today.

Pray with me: Father, I thank you today that like the angels who heralded the good news of the birth of Christ, I too can herald or share that good news with others around me. Give me the grace to be a good herald of the good news of the gospel of Jesus Christ during this blessed season. Amen.
