Who Are You Imitating
In today’s devotion, let’s talk about today’s thought, “Who Are You Imitating”.
SCRIPTURE | Today’s thought comes from 1 Corinthians 11:1 which says, “And you should follow my example, just as I follow Christ’s.”
STORY | A story is told that President Calvin Coolidge invited some people from his hometown to dinner at the White House. Since they did not know how to behave at such an occasion, they thought the best policy would be just to do what the President did.
The time came for serving coffee. The President poured his coffee into a saucer. As soon as the home folk saw it, they did the same. The next step for the President was to pour some milk and add a little sugar to the coffee in the saucer. The home folks did the same. They thought for sure that the next step would be for the President to take the saucer with the coffee and begin sipping it. But the President didn’t do so. He leaned over, placed the saucer on the floor and called the cat.
LESSON | This story is simple but fascinating because you get the message immediately; who are you imitating and do you know why you are following them? In the text the Apostle Paul says, “follow me”, however, the very next thing he says, brings light to his request, and should serve as a very important guide to all of us as believers. Paul said, “…as I follow Christ”. Ahh, now we know why we should follow Paul, because he has given us a perfect measuring stick to judge him against, Christ.
Blindly following anyone is rather foolish, but following Jesus, now that is the real key to life, love, and godliness, because He is a proven and perfect example which leads to life, peace, and eternal life.
PRAYER | C’mon, pray with me: Father, I thank you that I have Jesus Christ as the perfect proven example to follow. You sent Him into the earth, just to give us the best example of who we should be and how we should live as your children. Thank you that I can follow the perfect example of Jesus Christ today. Amen.
