Good morning family, in today’s devotion, let’s talk about today’s thought, “Love, The Greatest Gift”.

Today’s thoughts come from 1 Corinthians 13:4-7 (TLB) which says,
4 Love is very patient and kind, never jealous or envious, never boastful or proud, 5 never haughty or selfish or rude. Love does not demand its own way. It is not irritable or touchy. It does not hold grudges and will hardly even notice when others do it wrong. 6 It is never glad about injustice, but rejoices whenever truth wins out. 7 If you love someone, you will be loyal to him no matter what the cost. You will always believe in him, always expect the best of him, and always stand your ground in defending him.

When we think about Christmas, a big part of our thoughts often center around gift-giving as a demonstration of our love; love is also expressed by spending time together; dropping our busy schedules, putting work and business on pause, and being with those people who we care about.

Therefore, from its most basic element, we recognize love to be more than just a whispered word rising out of an emotional feeling in the moment, but rather, we recognize love as something that demonstrates itself through giving.

God’s Christmas story is really no different and is also based on gift giving and spending time with those God loves. 

Because of His love, God gave us His Son – John 3:16 “for God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten son, that whosoever believes on him shall not perish, but have everlasting life”; God’s Son has given us access into everlasting life. The gift of everlasting life is the greatest gift any of us can receive from God because it opens to us the opportunity to live beyond the present moment and for all eternity, in the presence of God. 

Because God wanted to spend time with us, He gave us His Son – Matthew 1:23 “Behold, a virgin shall be with child and shall bring forth a Son, and they shall call His name Emmanuel” (which being interpreted is, “God with us”). God with us, isn’t that a powerful and wonderful though? That no matter where we are, no matter where we go, that God is with us. We may not see Him nor even feel Him, but Emmanuel, is always with us.

Pray with me: Father, I thank you today that I can celebrate your love for me, through Jesus Christ your Son. I recognize that the same way I want to give the best to those I love and want to spend precious time with them, that you too has given me heaven’s best. I received your love today. Amen.
